Driving lessons in Mount Barker
Mount Barker is one of my 2 main pick-up areas, so lessons here carry no travel fee. It's also where a lot of my learners are, which means I'm on these roads constantly.

I travel to plenty of towns across the Hills, and for some of them a travel surcharge of $10 to $20 applies depending on distance. Mount Barker isn't one of them. Along with Murray Bridge, it's a base pick-up area, so what you pay is the lesson.
Roads that ask a lot of a new driver
Mount Barker sits at roughly 359 metres of elevation, and the terrain shows up in the driving. Pulling away on a slope at a real junction, with someone waiting behind you, is a different thing to doing it on a flat quiet street. The town has also grown quickly, so a learner here deals with genuine traffic, multi-lane sections and busy roundabouts rather than empty streets.
Where Service SA fits in (and where it doesn't)
There's a Service SA centre at 12 Morphett Street, Mount Barker, open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and Wednesday from 9:30am, taking EFTPOS and credit card only. It's worth being clear about what happens there, because it's widely misunderstood: this is where you lodge your certificate of competency, your completed log book and your fee to be issued your P1 licence. It is not where the driving test happens. The test is conducted by a private Authorised Examiner, which is who I book for you.
A note on anyone selling you 'the Mount Barker test route'
Official VORT routes are released only to Authorised Examiners, through their mySAGOV accounts. Nobody teaching lessons can legitimately hand you the route, and I'd be cautious of anyone implying they can. What I do instead is make sure you can handle every element the test covers, on the kinds of roads it covers them on, so the specific streets stop mattering.
